Amritavarshini raaga , the rain raaga is believed to bring rains when sung. 'Aanandamrutha karshini' is one of the Dikshitar composition which is definitely a treat to sing and hear to.
The Hindustani version of this raga is Malhar. Varsha as it is termed, means rain. One can note the last line in the charanam 'salilam varshaya varshaya varshaya' where Dikshitar requests the rain God Lord Varuna to bring rain to earth.
