Jagajjanani sukapani

3:51 PM Posted by Vijayasri

'jagajjanani' is a famous song on Goddess Madurai Meenakshi who has a parrot perched on her arms. This krithi is a Ghanam Krishna Iyer composition set on raaga 'ratipathipriya'.
This raaga 'ratipathipriya' has an enchanting musical beauty in it which can invoke the devotion for the Goddess. It has the same structure (arohanam and avarohanam) as the raaga 'Hamasadhwani' except for the swaras gandaram and nishadam.

Hamsadwani has antara gandharam where as rathipatipriya has sadharna gandharam. The nishadam is also different. Hamsadhwani takes kAkali ni and Ratipatipriya takes the kaishiki ni.

Lyrics of 'Jagat janani sukapani' :

Watch Aruna Sairam rendering this divine Meenakshi Krithi 'Jagajani'.
Smt. Aruna Sairam sings a few stanzas from Abirami Antadhi in praise of Goddess Abirami of Thirukadayur in Raga Kambodhi and Anandabhairavi. This is followed by a very famous song "Jagajjanani" on Goddess Madurai Meenakshi, in Raga 'Ratipatipriya', which she renders enchantingly.

Thanks for posting this interesting and informtive post!

I was wondering if it was also possible to put the notations which would be very useful in practicing the song
